Highlvl Underwater Robots in Security & Surveillance

Overview

Underwater security surveillance solutions: Water area security is part of national security. Ports, channels, reservoirs, nuclear intakes, sea crossings and border rivers face varied risks: underwater intrusion, explosive threats, damage to facilities, illegal fishing, smuggling and illegal border crossing. Conventional security relies on surface patrols and video surveillance, with weak underwater situational awareness, large blind spots, slow response and poor evidence.

As underwater sentinels, ROVs and AUVs break through the surface barrier to conduct covert reconnaissance, target screening, facility inspection and evidence capture, forming a three-dimensional surface, mid-water and seabed security system. They give sensitive waters, critical infrastructure and major events all-weather, full-depth and intelligent underwater security.

Core application scenarios

1. Underwater security screening at ports and key channels

Large ports, naval bases and key shipping channels are transport and logistics hubs and high-risk areas for underwater threats. The ROV carries out periodic sonar scanning and HD camera patrols of berth areas, anchorages and channel beds to identify suspicious objects such as explosive devices, sunken obstacles or illegal anchors, and inspects quay piles and revetments for structural safety, preventing underwater sabotage or channel blockage.

2. Protection of nuclear and industrial water intakes

If an intake at a nuclear plant, large chemical works or water treatment plant is blocked or contaminated, operational and public safety are directly threatened. The ROV patrols trash racks, forebays and intake channels to identify debris blockage, sudden biofouling or deliberately introduced pollutants, and can clear obstructions urgently with a manipulator to keep the intake system running safely.

3. Security patrols at reservoirs, dams and water facilities

Underwater security at urban drinking water sources, strategic reservoirs and major dams matters for public welfare and flood safety. The ROV covertly patrols submerged banks, the water area upstream of the dam and spillway facilities to look for illegal diving, underwater eavesdropping devices or signs of structural damage, and increases patrol frequency during holidays, flood season and other sensitive periods to give security commanders a live underwater picture.

4. Protection of sea crossings and underwater infrastructure

Sea-crossing bridges, subsea tunnels and submarine cables and pipelines cover long distances and are hard to protect. The ROV autonomously patrols along the route, fusing magnetometer, sonar and camera data to identify exposed pipelines, anchor damage, illegal excavation and attached eavesdropping devices, and samples structural safety at pier foundations and immersed tunnel joints, guarding against targeted sabotage and terrorism.

5. Water area security for major events

Waters around international conferences, sports events and major diplomatic occasions must be protected against underwater explosives, intruding divers and unmanned underwater vehicles. The ROV sweeps core waters systematically before the event and conducts live underwater patrols and tracking of abnormal targets during it, working with surface security forces to keep the event waters clear underwater.

6. Border rivers and sensitive waters

Border rivers, territorial sea basepoints and disputed waters require effective control of illegal crossings, resource theft and espionage against underwater facilities. The ROV performs covert reconnaissance in complex waters, identifying signs of illegal diving, emplaced underwater obstacles or abnormal disturbance of the seabed, providing technical support for border control and sovereignty protection.

7. Underwater EOD and hazardous object response

When a suspected underwater explosive, chemical pollutant or other hazardous device is found, the ROV approaches first for HD identification and risk assessment to establish its nature, position and condition. Under remote control by specialists it can assist with grabbing and removal, destruction by controlled detonation or safe isolation, minimising direct exposure of EOD personnel.

Typical security applications

  • Port and channel screening: screening berth areas for suspicious objects, identifying illegal anchoring, removing channel obstacles
  • Nuclear intake protection: intake debris patrols, biofouling monitoring, emergency clearance
  • Reservoir and dam security: covert reconnaissance of submerged banks, screening for illegal activity upstream of the dam, spillway safety checks
  • Sea crossing protection: pier foundation inspection, subsea pipeline route patrols, anchor damage identification
  • Major event security: systematic sweeps of core waters, live underwater patrols during the event, tracking of abnormal targets
  • Border river control: covert reconnaissance of sensitive waters, identification of illegal diving, screening for espionage against underwater facilities
  • Underwater EOD response: close identification of suspected explosives, risk assessment, assisted removal or controlled destruction
